I Ignored My Hurco CNC Machines for DMLS and It Cost Us $3,600

Thirteen years into running a custom CNC shop, I've logged 11 mistakes worth roughly $31,000. This one might be the dumbest, because the answer was sitting on my shop floor the whole time.

In March 2023, an injection molding company near Venice FL emailed us about two small jobs. They needed 36 aluminum brackets and 20 guides cut from corrugated plastic. The flatness callout was off by 0.004 in on three of the first six parts. The threaded holes were worse. DMLS threads are often frail unless the part is designed for them, and the first torque test failed on two holes. The customer's quality team was not happy.
